Hello readers. I was just reading the sermon on the mount to my children. It begins in Mathew 5. As I was reading to them, some of the verses struck me. I guess the main thing that I was getting out of it was that as a christian, I owe a debt of love to those around me. Here is one of the verses that struck me.
Mathew 5:39-42, "But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Of course this is where we come up with the saying, turn the other cheek, but wow. This is what struck me. Don't turn away from those who would borrow from thee. Hello, this was a wake up call to me. Two people called today to borrow my hubby's truck, and I told them no. I did say no because my hubby said he thought it was broken, and I didn't want to cause it further damage before it was looked at, however, I should have tried harder to help in any way I could. These verses remind me that I am not on this earth for my own selfish purposes, but to glorify my Father in heaven. This I do by obeying his commands, not to earn anything from him, but out of love for him.
