Sermon on the Mount

I have just finished up with the sermon on the mount in Mathew. As you can tell, I am not doing an in depth study of it, but just commenting on the things that jump out at me. The passage that just hit me was Mathew 7:13-14.

Enter ye in at the straight gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way , which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

When I read this it made my heart skip a beat. It is breathtaking, the broad scope that this statement takes. Basically, it tells us that of all humans, there will be a few that are saved and go to heaven. The next verses serve as an important warning to us all. They are Mathew 7:15-23

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

I know that the Lord has saved me from every sin, but I am grateful that he has given me such a stern warning, I am thankful that he cares enough about me to save me from hell! Amen.
