1 Thessalonians 5

Hello again, I am doing my bible study today on 1 Thessalonians 5, which I mentioned the other day was worthy of more study. I was truly rejoicing as I read this today. Of course at the beginning of the chapter it talks about how the Lord will come as a thief in the night, as in those that are without Christ will not be looking for it or expecting it. It says that people will be saying "Peace and safety" and then sudden destruction will come upon them. But that isn't what struck me, the thing that made me think was that in verse 4 it says "But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober." Did you catch that? We (those who trust Jesus) are not overtaken by that day as a thief. We have Jesus, the light of the world, the light of life. We don't know the day or hour, but we know that He is coming. This also caught my attention, because lately I feel as if my walk with Christ has been on auto pilot. I have been "asleep" instead of being alert. Boy did Satan use that, but I sure am glad that my Jesus was not content to let me be destroyed, but has called me back to wake fullness. I pray that the Lord will continue to keep me wakeful, and alert, that I may serve him joyfully, thankfully and well! Look also at verse 8. There we are admonished to to "....be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation." May the Lord ever so clothe us that we may battle in the day, and may He bring us safely into heaven for his glory, AMEN!
