Love equals Compromise?

I was just thinking of a country song that you may know. "I'll Start Walking Your Way" I can't remember the auther, nor do I know all the lyrics, but the refrain is:

I'd start walking your way

You'd start walking mine,

We'd meet in the middle

'neath that ole Georgia Pine.

We'd gain a lot of ground,

'cause we'd both give a little.

There ain't no road too long,

if you meet in the middle.

I have heard the opinion expressed in these lyrics often, "To show love you have to compromise". Now, there are many times when this statement will work out and be true. Things like how you clean the house, where you go to dinner, what you do, or do not, cook. These are all good things to compromise on. But when I was just thinking about this song, it made me think of love, and the Lord of Love, Jesus. Here there is no compromise. He loved us exceedingly. So much so that He died to pay for our sins, so that we may live. One thing He did not do is compromise. He did not "walk our way" at all! He came to this earth and did only good, and perfectly obeyed God. That is not walking our way. We walk in sin. When we are born we are perfect little sinners! We cannot walk God's way either. So there is no compromise in the relationship between humans and God. But, because Jesus did not compromise, he made a way for us to come to God. He calls us by his word, the Bible, and in his word teaches us all that we need to know for life and salvation. No, Jesus doesn't "walk our way", but he does search us out. He seeks us and retrieves us from Satan, the world and our own sinful flesh. He doesn't do it out of compromise, but out of love. There is no compromise between righteousness and unrighteousness, but thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ, there is forgiveness!
